This month’s Humans of CP features Oliver Cook, an intern-turned-Account Coordinator. Oliver interned at CP in 2015 and 2016, then finally joined the team full time in 2017 after graduating from University of Colorado at Boulder. Today, we’re speaking with him to learn more about his role at CP and his life outside our blue and orange walls.
What do you do at Customer Portfolios?
I am an Account Coordinator, but that’s just one of the roles that I play at CP. I started in 2017 as an Account Coordinator for Journeys and Vera Bradley and a Marketing Program Specialist (MPS) for multiple clients. I’ve kept the Account Coordinator role, but I’m no longer an MPS. Instead, I’ve recently added some training towards being a QA specialist, so I’m learning more about the Solution Architect role with a focus on the quality assurance of our campaigns.
What’s your hidden talent?
I’ve played the guitar for a while now. I started playing in 7th grade because my brother had been playing for a couple years. While I don’t take lessons anymore, I still play frequently.
Ten years ago, who did you think you would be now?
Well, 10 years ago I was 13 so I still wanted to be a skateboarder/rock star for my career. I thought I would be living in California somewhere on the beach. Obviously, I’ve come back down to Earth since then, but I’m still in touch with the friends that I thought would be out there living the Rockstar life with me.
What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?
Every Christmas my mom makes beef wellington with haricots verts and scalloped potatoes. It’ll always be one of my favorite meals because it’s one of the things that brings my family together during the holidays.
What’s the first concert you ever attended?
Eric Clapton at the Comcast Center with my mom and my brother. I was in 8th grade and had to skip a middle school band concert to go to see it. The conductor was a little disappointed with me, but I think he was just jealous! Seeing live music is still one of my favorite things to do. I’ve seen a lot of concerts since, but I’ll always remember Eric Clapton as the first.
Where would you choose to live: by the ocean, in the mountains or in the woods?
Ocean. Although I went to school in Colorado and loved life in the Rocky Mountains, I always knew I felt more at home by the ocean. It doesn’t hurt that our office is on the water!
What has been your biggest challenge at Customer Portfolios so far?
Being a small company, it’s easy to get involved in all aspects of a task or project, but a lot of times that’s not the best way – it’s better to let the expert in their field play the role so the job is done right. Especially as someone who has had multiple positions, I always feel like I could be doing more or less so it can become a challenge to find a good balance.
Stay tuned for next month, when we speak with another member of our Account Team!
